Assessing human skin color from uncalibrated images

چکیده
Images of a scene captured with multiple cameras will have different color values because of variations in color rendering across devices. We present a method to accurately retrieve color information from uncalibrated images taken under uncontrolled lighting conditions with an unknown device and no access to raw data, but with a limited number of reference colors in the scene. The method is used to assess skin tones. A subject is imaged with a calibration target. The target is extracted and its color values are used to compute a color correction transform that is applied to the entire image. We establish that the best mapping is done using a target consisting of skin colored patches representing the whole range of human skin colors. We show that color information extracted from images is well correlated with color data derived from spectral measurements of skin. We also show that skin color can be consistently measured across cameras with different color rendering and resolutions ranging from 0.1 to 4.0 megapixels. VC 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Color correction of uncalibrated images for the classification of human skin color

متن کاملImage Annotation for Adaptive Enhancement of Uncalibrated Color Images
The paper describes an innovative image annotation tool, based on a multi-class Support Vector Machine, for classifying image pixels in one of seven classes sky, skin, vegetation, snow, water, ground, and man-made structures or as unknown. These visual categories mirror high-level human perception, permitting the design of intuitive and effective color and contrast enhancement strategies. As a ...
متن کاملWhite Point Estimation for Uncalibrated Images
Color images often must be color balanced to remove unwanted color casts. We extend previous work on using a neural network for illumination, or white-point, estimation from the case of calibrated images to that of uncalibrated images of unknown origin. The results show that the chromaticity of the ambient illumination can be estimated with an average CIE Lab error of 5∆E. Comparisons are made ...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Dermatological Workstation: Preliminary Results on Lesion Segmentation in Cie L∗a∗b∗ Color Space
In the past we have proposed a pseudo-colorimetric imaging system for dermatological uses. The system exhibits moderate accuracy, but high precision or reproducibility. Acquired images are stored in the welldefined gamma-corrected sRGB color space. This color space has a known relationship to the perceptually uniform CIE L∗a∗b∗ color space, which allows the development of segmentation methods b...
متن کاملModel-Based Parameter Recovery from Uncalibrated Optical Images
We propose a novel method for quantitative interpretation of uncalibrated optical images which is derived explicitly from an analysis of the image formation model. Parameters characterising the tissue are recovered from images acquired using filters optimised to minimise the error. Preliminary results are shown for the skin, where the technique was successfully applied to aid the diagnosis and ...
